Day 77: What would you like to learn? I think about wanting to learn a lot of things lately. If I had to narrow it down to one thing it would be how to paint. When I take photographs I aim to make images that look painterly. With painting you can use a crappy source photo and make it look amazing with your artistic license. When I shoot a photograph I have to look at things like, what is in the background? are there distracting telephone poles or power lines? I know I can use Photoshop to get rid of those things but unless you are very very good at it, when you enlarge an image you can spot the fix. With paintings I can ask more money for my work than I can with photography. Paintings take a lot longer to produce, of course, and maybe I don’t have the patience to see a painting through to the end. As you can tell with my verbal rambling that maybe I don’t really want to learn how to paint, maybe I just want to learn how to make more painterly photographs. Anyone have any thoughts on the matter?
