Day 147: Art Quote of the Day

Day 147: Art quote of the day! Happy Friday! Sharing a quote with you from one of my all time favorite artists, Georgia O’Keefe, “To create one’s world in any of the arts takes courage.”

I find her quote to be so very true. When you make art, as I do in photography, you are putting your work out there for all to see. It takes a lot of courage to put yourself and “your stuff” out there. If someone does not like our art we feel it and some times are offended. Artists range the gamut, there are potters, weavers, painters, graphite artists, sculptors, carvers, floral arrangers, singers, musicians, bloggers (a shout out to my fellow bloggers) and I could go on forever (not really). All artists put their heart and soul into their work, and even blood, sweat and tears some times.

Everyone, whether you yourself are an artist or not, has their own idea of what they think good art is. What I am trying to say is that art is subjective. What one person thinks is good art is different from someone else’s view of good art. Viewing art is a visceral thing, it reaches us to our very core. What we might feel from a piece of art might not move us like it would for someone else. I think you know what I mean.

Making photographs and making art moves me and it always will! Whatever you do this weekend, find something to do that moves you!

What moves you? Catch you later!

Day 118 of 365: Art Quote of the Day

Day 118: Here is an “Art” quote for your day by Pablo Picasso, “The purpose of art is washing the dust of daily life off our souls.” This quote rings true for me!

Think of it, art is so liberating! My art is mainly photography, but the framed piece above is one that I did in soft pastels from one of my photographs. Whether it is pastels or photographs, art feeds my soul! When I have a camera in my hand or around my neck in an image worthy environment, I can get lost for hours framing and capturing my view of this beautiful world.

All sense of time goes out the window, it is like I am in a different world. A world away from the chaos, stress and “dust” of daily life. I believe that my passion is my art in its various forms. The definition of passion is an intense desire or enthusiasm for something. I believe that everyone should have a passion. Something that fulfills, enriches and recharges you.

What is your passion? What washes the “dust of daily life off of your soul?”

Day 112 of 365: Life and Art

Day 112: Life and Art. I often go to for inspiring quotes. Today I came across one about 2 things I care a lot about, Life and Art. “Life beats down and crushes the soul and art reminds you that you have one,” by Stella Adler.

Life is full of ups and downs as we all know. The stresses of life can and do get us down. I don’t know about you but when I get down and out I tend to look to Mother Nature to defuse stress. My soul is fed when I grab my camera, hop in my Jeep and go down the road in search of beautifully lit scenery. Other people may go to the gym to work off some frustration, while others might go to seek the solace of a good friend.

In my life art is invigorating! Art means something different to each of us. Art may mean a painting in a gallery, a sculpture in a park, graffiti on a train, a poem, a song, a flower in a garden or the sun setting over the mountains. The old saying that goes “beauty is in the eye of the beholder” holds true for art. Whatever we think art is, it is therapeutic. Art has a unique way of transcending us from this hectic and chaotic world both figuratively and physically to a place that feeds our soul and heals our mind, body and spirit!

Go out in the world today and choose happiness, make empowered choices, live in a spirit of gratitude, seek out art and be curious and creative!

What does “art” mean to you? Where do you go to find art?

Day 102 of 365: Art and Love

Day 102: Art and Love! My subjects for today! I have mentioned before that I find inspiring quotes on a website called I found the Art Quote of the Day to be interesting as well as inspiring. Here it is, “Every picture shows a spot with which the artist has fallen in love,” by Alfred Sisley.

Take the photo above for instance. I just love this beautiful grass! It is oftentimes hard to find beautiful images in the winter, but this grass has ALWAYS called to me. It calls to me saying “please make a picture of me.” This grass is so textural and its beauty is intensified when the Montana wind blows through these stands of grass and when the suns starts to showcase them as it sets!

Above is a different photograph of the same grass that I love so much! We have had a what feels like unusually LONG winter and I will welcome spring “with bells on” when it decides to come. In the meantime I will actively search for more winter time beauty!

What do you find beauty in? Whether you are an artist or not, we are all capable of falling in love with art whether it is in nature, on canvas or on the side of a train car!

Day 84 of 365: Best Quality about Yourself

Day 84: What is the BEST quality about yourself? I would have to say that my BEST quality is STUBBORNESS! I guess it could also be considered my worst quality, depending on how you look at it.

The meaning of the word is “dogged determination not to change one’s attitude or position on something.” That is me in a nutshell. I am a Taurus after all! I have had some letdowns lately, but I am not going to quit now. My Dad has a sign in his room at the nursing home that reads, “never, never, never quit.” Dad has had several strokes and one of my sisters lovingly gave him the sign for inspiration.  I have seriously taken that as my mantra!

When you enter the art world as I did, from the world of nursing, it is full of creative competition! It is TOUGH to find your niche!!! I ask myself everyday about what my niche is. I photograph all things and I have trouble narrowing my focus to something that other photographers are not doing. I am having trouble finding the answer to this question, “what is my niche?”

Needless to say, I am STUBBORN and am going to continue to do what I do until I hopefully have that “ah ha” moment.” I have a quote I would like to share that made me laugh, “Sometimes I feel like giving up, then I remember I have a lot of mother- – – – – – –  to prove WRONG!!!”

I dare you to LIKE or COMMENT on what your favorite quality about yourself is!
