Day 151: Beauty

tulips (lg file)

Day 151: Beauty. I love this time of year! Beauty is all around us. Just look at all the signs of life around us. The grass is greener than green. The birds are all singing. The flowers and the tree’s blooms are in their glory. Noticing new birth all around, calves, colts, fillies, fawns. We have been given a great gift this spring after a “longer than normal” winter!

I am finding beauty everywhere! Confucius once said, “Everything has beauty, but not everyone sees it.” For me, it is hard NOT to see the beauty that is around me!

Hoping that all of you can make it outside today to find the beauty that is so abundant in our environment this time of year. As a photographer I am giddy with all the awesome photo “opps” around me!

Have a beautiful day!

Day 111 of 365: Flowers

Day 111: Flowers! One of my all time favorite things! I want to share a quote by Jean Giraudoux about the flower,”The flower is the poetry of reproduction. It is an example of the eternal seductiveness of life.”

The flower is one of God’s most beautiful creations. They are visually stimulating, attractive and enticing. These are words that describe seductiveness. The lines, shapes, and smells of a flower can be compared to a female for example. Just like a man is attracted to a woman, the bee is attracted to the flower albeit for different reasons. With the coming of spring comes the unveiling of nature’s flowers in all their glory.

Flowers are very poetic, as they are so expressive and evoke feelings in us that are strong and intense. Some synonymous words include elegant, artistic, symbolic and beautiful. Take the rose for instance, it is considered a symbol of balance. The beauty of a rose expresses hope, promise and new beginnings. The many colors of roses each signify something different. Yellow roses symbolize joy and mature love, while the red rose is the traditional symbol for love and romance. The white rose is the traditional wedding flower, a symbol of purity, innocence and true love.

My favorite flower is the sunflower or helianthus. The sunflower is stunningly beautiful. They are rich in meaning. They symbolize adoration, loyalty and longevity. Their meaning is derived from its namesake, the sun. To me they are the happiest of flowers as they always face the sun and have big beautiful faces.

I could go on and on about flowers, but I won’t. What is your favorite flower and why? How do you feel when you see flowers?

Day 102 of 365: Art and Love

Day 102: Art and Love! My subjects for today! I have mentioned before that I find inspiring quotes on a website called I found the Art Quote of the Day to be interesting as well as inspiring. Here it is, “Every picture shows a spot with which the artist has fallen in love,” by Alfred Sisley.

Take the photo above for instance. I just loveĀ this beautiful grass! It is oftentimes hard to find beautiful images in the winter, but this grass has ALWAYS called to me. It calls to me saying “please make a picture of me.” This grass is so textural and its beauty is intensified when the Montana wind blows through these stands of grass and when the suns starts to showcase them as it sets!

Above is a different photograph of the same grass that I love so much! We have had a what feels like unusually LONG winter and I will welcome spring “with bells on” when it decides to come. In the meantime I will actively search for more winter time beauty!

What do you find beauty in? Whether you are an artist or not, we are all capable of falling in love with art whether it is in nature, on canvas or on the side of a train car!
