Day 87: The BEST light to shoot in!

Day 87: The BEST light to shoot in! Many of you know I am a photographer. I am constantly searching for the perfect light when capturing landscape images. Without the best light in your photo your images can be dull and lackluster. When shooting landscape images, like I do, it is critical to find the right time of day.

Many of us talk about the “golden hour” as the best time to shoot. The golden or magic hour is the first hour of light after sunrise and the last hour of light before sunset. The light at these 2 times of day are most flattering when the sun is low in the sky as opposed to the light of the noon day sun. The golden hour of light is also the best light for shooting portraits outdoors. This light tends to be more diffuse and warmer in hue giving your subjects a more attractive glow.

I believe that the BEST light to shoot in is natural light, that is the light from the sun. If you are shooting a portrait and your subject’s face is not lit well, you can use a special reflector (or the sun reflector from your car) to bounce the light from the sun back into your subject’s face. You may need to ask someone to hold the reflector at the right angle for you.

It is all about the LIGHT in photography. There is a quote by George Eastman that I would like to share with you, “Light makes photography. Embrace light. Admire it. Love it. But above all, know light. Know it for all you are worth, and you will know the key to photography.”

Day 84 of 365: Best Quality about Yourself

Day 84: What is the BEST quality about yourself? I would have to say that my BEST quality is STUBBORNESS! I guess it could also be considered my worst quality, depending on how you look at it.

The meaning of the word is “dogged determination not to change one’s attitude or position on something.” That is me in a nutshell. I am a Taurus after all! I have had some letdowns lately, but I am not going to quit now. My Dad has a sign in his room at the nursing home that reads, “never, never, never quit.” Dad has had several strokes and one of my sisters lovingly gave him the sign for inspiration.  I have seriously taken that as my mantra!

When you enter the art world as I did, from the world of nursing, it is full of creative competition! It is TOUGH to find your niche!!! I ask myself everyday about what my niche is. I photograph all things and I have trouble narrowing my focus to something that other photographers are not doing. I am having trouble finding the answer to this question, “what is my niche?”

Needless to say, I am STUBBORN and am going to continue to do what I do until I hopefully have that “ah ha” moment.” I have a quote I would like to share that made me laugh, “Sometimes I feel like giving up, then I remember I have a lot of mother- – – – – – –  to prove WRONG!!!”

I dare you to LIKE or COMMENT on what your favorite quality about yourself is!
