Day 151: Beauty

tulips (lg file)

Day 151: Beauty. I love this time of year! Beauty is all around us. Just look at all the signs of life around us. The grass is greener than green. The birds are all singing. The flowers and the tree’s blooms are in their glory. Noticing new birth all around, calves, colts, fillies, fawns. We have been given a great gift this spring after a “longer than normal” winter!

I am finding beauty everywhere! Confucius once said, “Everything has beauty, but not everyone sees it.” For me, it is hard NOT to see the beauty that is around me!

Hoping that all of you can make it outside today to find the beauty that is so abundant in our environment this time of year. As a photographer I am giddy with all the awesome photo “opps” around me!

Have a beautiful day!

Day 142 of 365: Guard Against It

tulips (lg file)

Day 142: Guard against it! There is one thing that you should guard yourself against in all your relationships as well as your marriage. That one thing is PRIDE.

Pride builds up walls that prevent open, intimate and loving relationships. Pride can cause a person to have an unhealthy sense of self-importance over others. Remember the Bible story of the Tower of Babel and what happened to those prideful people?

Instead, we should be a people of humility. Humility deflates our unhealthy sense of self, puts the focus on the other person and removes the tension and competitiveness in our relationships.

In our marriages, if we have humility we have an open and unselfish heart, free to love our mate unconditionally. That is what true love is after all.

One of my favorite songs is “Humble and Kind” by Tim McGraw. It reminds us to do all those things we were taught to do in kindergarten. I think our world needs to take a lesson in humility!

Some wise words from the Bible, “Be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love,” Ephesians 4:2.

Day 130 of 365: LOVE and good listening.

Day 130: LOVE. Sharing a quote from that reads, “A man is already halfway in love with any woman who listens to him,” by Brenda Behan. I would argue that the same could be said for a woman.

Isn’t good listening essential for a thriving loving relationship? I am guilty of only half listening sometimes when my husband is talking to me, especially if I am in the middle of something. I guess I should drop everything that I am doing and devote my whole self to listening to the message. My husband and I are both guilty of half listening, I would say. He would say otherwise!

A good partner must also be good at picking up nonverbal cues from their mate. I know that my husband knows something is wrong when I go silent. That usually means that something has pissed me off and I want him to know it! This tactic is NOT the best, because my husband does not always pick up on my “pissy” cues and the longer he is clueless the more I stew andĀ  the madder I get. It is like the snowball rolling down the hill, it gets bigger and out of control. I really need to work on my communication skills and voice my anger, instead of staying silent.

In a good loving relationship, there should always be open lines of communication as well as good listening on both sides.

Here are some tips for good listening:

  1. Face your partner, drop what you are doing and keep good eye contact.
  2. Keep an open mind.
  3. Be attentive and relaxed.
  4. Listen to the words and try to get their meaning.
  5. Don’t interrupt.
  6. Ask questions only to ensure understanding.
  7. Try to feel what your partner is feeling.
  8. Try to understand what ISN’T said.
  9. Give regular feedback.
  10. Don’t interrupt by giving solutions, unless asked to.

Relationships are like a treasured old antique car, they take effort to keep up and must be treated with tender loving care!

What are some other things you feel are necessary to sustain a good and loving relationship?

Day 102 of 365: Art and Love

Day 102: Art and Love! My subjects for today! I have mentioned before that I find inspiring quotes on a website called I found the Art Quote of the Day to be interesting as well as inspiring. Here it is, “Every picture shows a spot with which the artist has fallen in love,” by Alfred Sisley.

Take the photo above for instance. I just loveĀ this beautiful grass! It is oftentimes hard to find beautiful images in the winter, but this grass has ALWAYS called to me. It calls to me saying “please make a picture of me.” This grass is so textural and its beauty is intensified when the Montana wind blows through these stands of grass and when the suns starts to showcase them as it sets!

Above is a different photograph of the same grass that I love so much! We have had a what feels like unusually LONG winter and I will welcome spring “with bells on” when it decides to come. In the meantime I will actively search for more winter time beauty!

What do you find beauty in? Whether you are an artist or not, we are all capable of falling in love with art whether it is in nature, on canvas or on the side of a train car!

Day 96 of 365: What we need more of in this world!

Day 96: What we need more of in this world! Yesterday’s post was a bit on the negative side, so today I thought I would write about something more positive. I don’t mean for this to sound cliche, but what I think we need more of in this world is LOVE.

Our world has become so snarky lately. In America, ever since our election in November 2016 we have been living in a hate filled environment hell bent on destroying our country and our President. I have never seen any other President in my lifetime treated with so much disrespect and hatred. I may not agree with his style, Tweets and ill chosen words sometimes but he wants our country to yes become “great again.” Our country has been starting to turn around and that is a reason to be happy. There is a hatred so strong that rational vision has been BLINDED. I say that we need to open up our eyes, minds and hearts and give love a chance to enter! Filling our hearts with love helps our attitude, our outlook and our mental and physical health.

I am going to close with a wonderful quote from the bible, “Hatred stirs up conflict, but love covers over all wrongs.” – Proverbs 3:3-4.

I welcome your comments. LIKE or COMMENT.

Day 90 of 365: What makes you happy?

Day 90: What makes you happy? Is there something that you come across or see that immediately makes you smile? That thing for me is flowers, specifically sunflowers. Their large faces to me are so happy and when you take a look at them in nature they all face the sun, like happy little campers! I have heard a quote about bacon that goes “bacon is a gift that pigs give us when we are good.” I say sunflowers are a gift that God gives us when we are good.” Actually He gives us unconditional love, whether we are good or not! So go out and find what makes you HAPPY!
