Day 147: Art quote of the day! Happy Friday! Sharing a quote with you from one of my all time favorite artists, Georgia O’Keefe, “To create one’s world in any of the arts takes courage.”
I find her quote to be so very true. When you make art, as I do in photography, you are putting your work out there for all to see. It takes a lot of courage to put yourself and “your stuff” out there. If someone does not like our art we feel it and some times are offended. Artists range the gamut, there are potters, weavers, painters, graphite artists, sculptors, carvers, floral arrangers, singers, musicians, bloggers (a shout out to my fellow bloggers) and I could go on forever (not really). All artists put their heart and soul into their work, and even blood, sweat and tears some times.
Everyone, whether you yourself are an artist or not, has their own idea of what they think good art is. What I am trying to say is that art is subjective. What one person thinks is good art is different from someone else’s view of good art. Viewing art is a visceral thing, it reaches us to our very core. What we might feel from a piece of art might not move us like it would for someone else. I think you know what I mean.
Making photographs and making art moves me and it always will! Whatever you do this weekend, find something to do that moves you!
What moves you? Catch you later!
Day 139: SUCCESS is the word for today. Thomas A. Edison said, “Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time.”
I find a lot to truth in this quote! When I think about things I really want to do, I think about how much work will be required. Sometimes I psyche myself out thinking about all the many hoops I have to “jump through” to get to my goal.
It is much less overwhelming to think about the process as individual steps. One step done is one step closer to the goal. Setting a daily goal is important. Nothing feels better than crossing things off your list of things to do! Liberating to be sure.
So the next time you think of quitting before you finish, think about taking that big task one step at a time. Or as Thomas Edison says, “try just one more time.” When I was in the Army, I hated running and had to drag myself out to prepare for the “PT test.” I would always divide my mile run into “just one lap at a time” until I got to four. Using this tactic was not nearly as daunting for me.
Here’s to you, never, never, never, never quit!

Day 138: Spring is party time! I would venture to say that everyone has longed for Spring after an unusually LONG winter. We are finally having spring now! The animals are excited, the humans are excited, the plants and grass are thriving! The temperatures are even warming up, not as much as I would like, but we shouldn’t be too greedy.
Spring is like finally being freed from bondage. The bondage of winter where we hole up in our homes and become couch potatoes. I used to spend more of my winters outside doing things like skiing, but my days of skiing are over. Arthritis and aging are cruel. When the temperature warms up and the sun is out, you see people come out of the woodwork. I really saw this happen in Alaska when Spring would finally arrive!
Not to change the subject, but I am going to anyway. My favorite comedian, who left this world way too soon, is Robin Williams. His passing hit me harder than any other celebrity’s death. I guess it was because I have had a history of anxiety and depression as well. I dare say he was just as talented, if not more, as a serious actor as he was a comedian! The movies, “The Dead Poets Society” and “Good Will Hunting” are just a few of the finest examples of his acting talent.
His stand-up comedy shows were hilarious, especially his “Live on Broadway” show in 2002. I invite you to watch it if you are in need of a ZILLION laughs. My favorite parts are about golf and Viagra. Now you know what kind of humor I enjoy. He is as funny as he is raunchy. I am a mother of 3 boys, so I have seen and heard it all before and am not easily offended!
Apart from a tribute to my fave comedian, I would like to share one of Robin’s many meaningful quotes, “Spring is nature’s way of saying, ‘Let’s party!”
Hope you have a day full of joy, laughter and partying that a Spring day can bring! Have a great weekend!

Day 136: Family Limerick:
There once was a woman and a man,
before long there was a handsome clan,
a lass and three boys,
house of toys and noise,
I remember those days while I can.
Families are precious and meant to be cherished! When you think of it, if you don’t have family, what do you have?
Remembering, with sadness, the passing of former First Lady Barbara Bush with one of her special quotes about the family, “To us, family means putting your arms around each other and being there.”
